At the time, Joe had no idea that bicycles would forever change his life. Like most kids, he spent his early years riding through the streets of his neighborhood, building jumps in the woods, and daring his friends—and himself—to go bigger each time. Bikes weren’t just transportation; they were freedom and thrill.

Joe always gravitated toward action sports. He spent his teenage years skateboarding and riding BMX, but injuries eventually forced him to step back in his twenties. That changed in 2011, when he got his first mountain bike. After just a few rides on local trails, he was completely hooked.

Soon after, he began working at the same local bike shop he’d grown up visiting. Before long, he was racing for the shop team—competing in cross-country races and even dabbling in criteriums. It was during this time that he earned the nickname “Joe Dirt.” But it wasn’t just about racing—Joe was drawn to the challenge of more technical trails and terrain that pushed his limits.

A weekend riding trip to Brevard in the fall of 2015 changed everything. He fell in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains and the incredible riding they offered. By the spring of 2016, he had moved to Brevard to pursue his passion full-time. He continued to grow both as a mechanic and a rider, gaining hands-on experience and sharpening his skills in the shop and on the trails.

During this chapter of life, Joe also met Melissa—his true partner in life and adventure. They married, started building a life together, and welcomed their first child in 2020 during the uncertainty of the pandemic.

Though Joe enjoyed a successful career in the cycling industry, he eventually felt the pull to build something of his own. That spark, combined with his deep love for bikes, mechanical expertise, and customer-first mindset, led to the creation of CykelWorx.

CykelWorx was born out of a desire to do things differently. Joe set out to offer precise, professional, and passionate bicycle service—with the right tools, the right knowledge, and the right attitude. He understands that bikes are more than machines—they’re joy, freedom, and connection.
